About the Workshop

A small bench, a long memory of wood.

Heritage Wood Revival is a five-person atelier on Old Middlefield Way in Mountain View. For thirty-five years we have restored pieces for families, designers, museums, and hotels across the San Francisco Bay Area — always by hand, always with the same patience.

01 Origin

Born from a single broken chair.

In 1991, Marcus Aldridge was a young carpenter in San Francisco who took on a small favour — repairing a client's grandmother's Victorian chair, one that three shops had turned away. It took six weeks and taught him everything he still believes about the trade: that a piece of furniture is a record of a life, and that restoring it is an act of care rather than erasure.

The chair is still in the family. So is the workshop.

What began as one bench in a garage in the Mission has grown into a full atelier with a dedicated conservation studio, a parquet floor division, and a mobile bench that travels wherever the work needs to be done. The philosophy has not changed.

02 The Team

The people behind the bench.

Five craftsmen, one shared standard. Every project is handled from first assessment to final delivery by the same person — you will never be passed between departments.

Marcus Aldridge

Founder · Master Craftsman

Trained in Yorkshire and San Francisco. Forty-one years in the trade, specializing in historic joinery and veneer work.

Elena Vásquez

Lead Conservator

Museum-trained at the Getty Institute. Handles all archival-grade and historically significant treatments.

Thomas Chen

Parquet Specialist

Fifteen years working exclusively with herringbone, chevron, and Versailles parquet. An expert pattern-matcher.

Rebecca Lindqvist

Finishing Artisan

Trained in Stockholm in traditional Scandinavian oil and wax finishes. Prepares every sample board personally.

Daniel Okonkwo

On-Site Lead

Runs the mobile bench. Handles large fixed pieces, emergency damage calls, and full parquet installations in place.

Client Relations

Your first point of contact. Coordinates assessments, proposals, deliveries, and every update in between.

03 Principles

Four things we refuse to compromise on.

Hand work over shortcuts

Every surface is sanded, scraped, and finished by hand. Machines help us, but they never replace the judgment of a craftsman at the bench.

Reversible treatments

Wherever possible, we use materials and methods that can be undone without harming the original piece. We are one chapter in a longer story, not the end of it.

Honest assessment

If a piece is beyond responsible restoration, we say so. If a cheaper solution would serve you better, we say that too. Our reputation is worth more than any single commission.

Documented every step

Condition reports, material samples, weekly photo updates. You will always know exactly what is happening to your piece, and why.

Local, always

We do not subcontract. Every hour of work happens in our Mountain View workshop or on-site with our own crew. Nothing ships out of state.

A five-year guarantee

Every restoration is backed by a five-year workmanship guarantee. If a joint fails, a finish lifts, or a veneer separates, we fix it at no cost.

04 The Workshop

Where the work actually happens.

Our atelier is a converted 1950s warehouse on Old Middlefield Way in Mountain View — ten minutes from downtown and easy to reach from anywhere on the Peninsula. It holds four benches, a climate-controlled finishing room, a dedicated conservation studio, and a curated library of salvaged period timber used for repairs and replacements.

Visitors are welcome by appointment. We would rather you see where your piece will live for the next six weeks than imagine it.
