We are a small atelier of five craftsmen. When we hire, we hire for the long run — people who care about joinery, finish, and the small decisions no one else will see. If that sounds like you, we would like to meet.

Why craftsmen stay for decades.

Most of our team has been with us for over eight years. Two of our craftsmen trained under Marcus Aldridge themselves and have since become specialists in their own right. We keep the crew small on purpose — it means every person knows the work in front of them and is trusted to make the call on it.

We do not chase volume. We do not farm out work. Every hour on the clock is spent in the workshop or on-site with the same five people, working at the pace a piece deserves.

02 Benefits

What we actually offer.

No ping-pong tables. No wellness app subscriptions. The things that matter to someone who has chosen to spend a career at a bench.

Predictable hours

Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm, with a real lunch break. We do not do unpaid overtime. Saturday work is optional and paid at time and a half.

Tools provided

Every craftsman receives a personal set of high-quality hand tools on day one, and we replace anything that wears out. Bring your own if you prefer — we respect personal kit.

Health & retirement

Full medical, dental, and vision through Blue Shield. A 4% employer match on your 401(k), vesting immediately. Six weeks of paid parental leave.

Learning budget

$2,000 per year for courses, books, or conferences — a hand-tool workshop in Maine, a conservation seminar at Winterthur, a French polishing course in London. Your choice.

Profit sharing

Five percent of net profit distributed to the team each year, weighted by tenure. In a good year, that has equalled four to six weeks of additional pay.

Real ownership

Craftsmen choose their own tools, schedule their own bench time, and are consulted on major decisions. This is not a shop where the boss decides everything.

Workshop · Full-time

Senior Cabinetmaker & Restorer

$78–95K + profit share

Lead complex commissions from assessment to delivery — including veneer work, inlay, joinery reconstruction, and finish. You will mentor one apprentice and hold final quality review for half of the workshop's output.

Restoration Apprentice — 3-year programme

$52–62K, rising annually

A structured apprenticeship combining hands-on bench time with formal instruction in joinery, finishing, and conservation theory. You will work alongside a senior craftsman from week one, not sweeping floors in the corner.

On-Site Technician — parquet specialist

$68–82K + travel

Run on-site floor restorations across the Bay Area — sanding, board replacement, pattern repair, and finishing. You will work with our mobile bench van and lead small crews of two to three on larger projects.

Client Relations Coordinator

$62–74K

Be the first voice clients hear. Manage intake, schedule consultations, coordinate proposals and deliveries, and keep the workshop's calendar sane. You do not need woodworking experience, but you need to care about the work.

A half-day at the bench

If your introduction resonates, we invite you in for half a day. You work alongside one of our craftsmen on a real piece, at real pace. You see us; we see you. Paid, of course.

A conversation about life

If both sides want to proceed, we talk terms, timing, and what you want from the next five years. No trick questions. No panel interviews. Just an honest conversation.
